Operations

Ask a controller what the close is and they will describe a fortnight. Ask what it should be and they will describe a report. The distance between those answers is queued work.
Why the queue forms
Monthly cadence made sense when matching was manual — you batched the work because switching cost was high. Software removed the switching cost, but the batch survived out of habit. Every day you wait, the pile compounds and context evaporates.
Continuous accounting is not a faster fire drill. It is the absence of one: reconcile on arrival, accrue on evidence, review on exception. The month-end that remains is a sign-off, not a sprint.
